The iFootage Shark Slider has all of the professional feature sets including adjustable legs / feet, smooth carbon rails, extendable rails, adjustable bearings, and is unique with the counterweight flywheel.

If the iFootage Shark Video Slider was not impressive enough on it's own, the iFootage team had their own NAB booth showing off a new prototype programmable 2-Axis Motion Control Pan / Tilt Head addition for the Shark Video Slider. Each axis is capable of rotating a full 360 degrees. Combined with the slider the complete kit will offer full 3 Axis programmable motion control.

I'm not sure if you can tell, but the microphone wasn't far from the head unit. The unit is fairly silent even as it tracked across for real time video use. Aside from offering very advanced time-lapse photography features that can be programmed into a wireless remote, the head can be programmed for auto panning to keep a subject in frame. Stay tuned about this product.

NAB 2014 Drew with Alzo Video talks about the upcoming additions to their popular High Intensity LED Video Lights. These lights are not using multiple standard plastic lensed diodes common with most flat panels adding additional benefits with this design.

The High Intensity LED can provide a true spot or flood with the optional fresnel lens and can be flagged using barn doors without multi-shadow issues. If you're a photographer who has worked with strobes, you'll notice the strobe-like design make this compatible with hundreds of light modifiers already available from softboxes, grids, snoots, strip boxes, dishes, and more.

Currently the Alzo 3000 (100 watt) High Intensity LED Video Light version is already available (found here), but in the near future they plan to offer a 50 watt, 200 watt, and 300 watt model. The 3300 model will be a very bright light, and may be better suited for a studio or to be hung from a ceiling. More information about these products can be found at https://AlzoVideo.com (here)

SHAPE KIRKNEFF PRODUCT PICTURE 640x480-v1
Over at NAB 2014 I stopped at the SHAPE booth to talk with Kirk Neff. I admit there's a bit of brown nosing on my end, but if you ever get the chance to chat with Kirk, it's inspiring to hear about the equipment (or lack of) he chooses to work with. He's a down-to-earth shooter not obsessed with RAW video or 4K cameras. No need for external HDMI ProRes recorders or 'Cine Style' lenses. His workflow is about being fast and functional with minimal gear.

I've got a lot of respect for this guy, as he's out there traveling the world, shooting long content news / documentary pieces for broadcast television and winning awards that are shot entirely from Nikon D800 DSLR cameras with Nikon auto focus lenses. So it's interesting to see the bundle that he decided to put together with SHAPE, and the pieces he personally feels are important for getting the job done.

Sold as a complete bundle so you don't need to fiddle, the Kirk Neff 2.0 Rig comes with an oversized DSLR Video Cage 2.0 with Quick release base, adjustable SHAPE shoulder rig, mini composite Shoulder Pad, Rear back pad, 'Swing Away' Matte Box with (2) 4x4 rotating filter trays, Telescopic push-button Adjustable Handles (Arri rossette), Follow Focus with both friction wheel and Gear, and on the website it also shows the expensive Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display as part of this bundle. I'm sure i'm missing a few items, but you can find out more about this entire Kirk Neff 2.0 Shoulder Rig Kit over at the SHAPEWLB.com website (click here).

Although it has always been possible to mount an ENG style Servo Zoom Lens to a mirrorless system (with a bit of fiddling), FotoDiox is developing the PowerLynx complete adapter kit to make this mod easier and more affordable.

The PowerLynx adapter we tested at the show was a working mechanical adapter with some vignetting at the wide angle. One version (currently in production) will have correcting optics built in to the adapter to eliminate vignetting and should be available in 2-3 months. I'm looking forward to trying this out with my GH3, BMPCC, as well as the new #GH4 when it arrives.

Although there were many new cameras showcased at NAB 2014, I still think the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera stands strong capable of shooting RAW video direct to SD Cards for under $1K. A camera I feel i'll still be working with quite a bit this year. It was especially great to see Redrock Micro alleviate some of the ergonomic hurdles with their new RetroFlex LCD ViewFinder + Cage + RunStop Video Remote Handle.

With the optional top shoe clamp, you can add 15mm rails. With the optional HDMI lock added to the cage you can prevent accidental disconnections or damage to ports on the BMPCC.

This kit is definitely at the top of my list once it becomes available. So far the RetroFlex Rig is the only BMPCC cage on the market with seamless integration with an LCD Viewfinder (something I feel is a necessity with the BMPCC). If Redrock Micro finds a way to port this retro stylish viewfinder + cage + handle kit over to other camera bodies (like GH4 / Sony A7), this could be an entirely new line for them.

More information about the Redrock Micro RetroFlex can be found at the website https://RedrockMicro.com.

Over at the Edelkrone booth, Kadir shows a line of products targeting compact camera systems. The new Pocket Series line of products transform from a 'battery-grip sized' block into common camera tools such as table top dolly, portable slider, stabilizing handles, shoulder stock with rails, and table stand. The design fits directly underneath DSLR camera bodies, or can be stacked together.

Edelkrone was also teasing us with a new concept in linear camera movement with it's prototype 'Wing'. A folding arm allows a camera to travel in a straight line, and depending on which direction the camera is facing you can use it for side to side tracking, push / pull, or vertical (jib-like) camera motion.

The Panasonic GH3 camera pretty much runs me all day on a single battery. In fact we covered several products at NAB 2014 without ever having to swap out a battery during the conference. Still if you think you need to use the Panasonic GH3 battery grip for extra battery life, you'll quickly find that the Tripod Mounting hole is thrown completely off center with Panasonic's OEM battery grip.

    GH3-Battery-Grip

This is problematic when using your cage, rails, and other accessories that require optical alignment with the lens. That's where this new Battery Grip Adapter comes in handy from Marketech.

    Product Description:
The Battery Grip Adapter for Panasonic GH3 & GH4 Cameras from Marketech is a slim, rectangular accessory that mounts on the bottom of the Panasonic DMW-BGGH3 battery grip, and provides a 1/4"-20 tripod mount that is located directly underneath the lens. This matches the position of the camera's own 1/4"-20 mount, as opposed to that of the grip's 1/4"-20, which is shifted to the right. The adapter is constructed from durable Delrin acetal resin. It connects to the grip via the attached, free-spinning, standard 1/4"-20 slotted screw, the same type found on many tripod plates.

If the GH3 battery grip is compatible with the GH4, then this product claims to correct the issue with the new #GH4 as well. You can find the Panasonic GH3 Battery Grip Adapter via B&H (click here).
