Just before I start to get more in-depth with the new CAME-TV Boltzen LED Lights that were featured at the NABShow 2017, I thought i'd start by showing how their lineup is being laid out. CAME-TV has really laid out a lot of options depending on what your lighting needs are. At this time they've sectioned out their Boltzen LED Lights into Small, Medium, and Large.

The smaller form factor Boltzen LED lights are targeted to shooters who want something portable and battery powered to be used on locations. They can be powered by 3 different options from Sony L Series, V-Mount, and AC wall power. With the lens attached you can adjust Spot and Flood, or remove the lens broader coverage, and even attach an optional Bowens Mount adapter to use off-the-shelf third party modifiers (i.e. Snoots, softboxes, beauty dishes). The 30w version is completely silent, but by adding a fan in the exact same form factor they were able to offer a 55w version. The 302/55w Lights come standard with barndoors, and if you want fast modifying they just dropped the new Magnetic Snap Kit.

The medium size Boltzen lights are currently available in a 60w (fan-less) version and a 100w version (with fan). These offer similar features to the smaller Boltzen lights as it's possible to power them off v-mount batteries (with optional adapter cable), include barn doors, can be modified to use Bowen mount accessories, and includes a fresnel lens with Spot and Flood adjustments.

The Large form factor Boltzens again offer similar features as the medium sized, and are available in 100w (fan-less) and 150w (with fan). At this size they start to include features like DMX control, and area also available in color temp adjustable models (bi-color).

Here's a product overview on the new Boltzen 55w and 30w LED Fresnel Video lights. What they come with, a run through some of the features, and few samples with Flood, Spot, and without the fresnel lens. Anyone working with hard spots like the Lowel Pro Lights, should really find these lights a joy.

The Boltzen 55w and 30w LED Fresnels are compact yet put out a good amount of power and the Fresnel lens has strong output even at a distance. The lights can be battery powered and stay cool to the touch (unlike pro lights), and you don't have to worry about fragile halogen bulbs burning out or breaking. You can use the lights without the fresnel lens for wider throw.

Keep in mind there are two things not seen in this video. First I didn't show the D-Tap cable which allows you to power these lights off of your V-Mount or Gold Mount batteries. They recently just added this D-tap Power cable as part of the standard kit, so anyone ordering one may have it in their case. Second is the Wifi control. There is a port on the back to which you will attach a wifi dongle. Then you can control it through a remote (or possibly iPhone app). This (optional) part was also not available yet during the making of this video.

If you're on a budget or super concerned about fan noise, the 30w is a great option. But personally I think the 55w is the way to go. The fan is barely audible from a short distance away. They 30w and 55w both share the same size. At this moment I think CAME-TV may be offering the smallest 55w LED Fresnel under $300 (cheaper when buying sets). I find these could be a perfect little compact hard light to keep in your kit.

Aputure has some of the most popular LED Panels available for the budget shooter, and now they've added a nice high power single point source LED Light called the LightStorm COB120. If you've worked with Fresnels, the new COB120 can be used in similar ways. Still photographers who are now working with continuous lighting will also be familiar with it's MonoLight type form factor. With a Bowens Mount adapter, you'll also be able to use many available Light Modifiers such as a Beauty Dish, Softboxes, Snoots, etc.

They say the new COB120 may have the equivalent to a 1K-1.5K fresnel which is very good output for an LED Light of this size. There is a fan built in to dissipate heat, but they say it's extremely quiet, similar to the fan found in the Mac Pro (trashcan). The new Aputure LightStorm COB120 will be available over at B&H (click here).

NAB 2014 Drew with Alzo Video talks about the upcoming additions to their popular High Intensity LED Video Lights. These lights are not using multiple standard plastic lensed diodes common with most flat panels adding additional benefits with this design.

The High Intensity LED can provide a true spot or flood with the optional fresnel lens and can be flagged using barn doors without multi-shadow issues. If you're a photographer who has worked with strobes, you'll notice the strobe-like design make this compatible with hundreds of light modifiers already available from softboxes, grids, snoots, strip boxes, dishes, and more.

Currently the Alzo 3000 (100 watt) High Intensity LED Video Light version is already available (found here), but in the near future they plan to offer a 50 watt, 200 watt, and 300 watt model. The 3300 model will be a very bright light, and may be better suited for a studio or to be hung from a ceiling. More information about these products can be found at https://AlzoVideo.com (here)

Mike Peterson writes in and shares his opinion on those new LED video lights that are being sold online as 1000w LED Fresnels. So far there really hasn't been much complaint over the actual build quality, as they are using the same aluminum housings as the 'As Arri' light kits (seen here) with a high power LED inside. Others have already confirmed these are not equivalent to 1000w, nor is it an actual Fresnel light (no proper glass element), but Mike thinks it's still a great solution for a bright low power / low temp light source. [Thanks Mike]

With most artificial light sources there will often be a green color cast, but can be corrected with a minus green (magenta) filter. The benefit to LED lighting is the ability to plug several at any location without blowing out circuit breakers and generating too much heat in the environment. You can also use low temp colored Gels (cheaper stuff) over the LED lights without the worry of it melting. Something you really need to think about if you're trying to use a few hot Tungsten or Halogen type lights. You can find this exact lighting kit, and other LED Fresnels via eBay (click here).

Jesse writes in and shares some new LED Video lights in the form of Fresnels [Thanks Jesse]. One unit looks to be using the 'As Arri' style housing. To be more accurate, one of these units do not provide an actual fresnel lens, so it would be considered more of an LED spotlight. Both units stuff a 100w High Power LED inside that should offer an equivalent power output of a 300w tungsten bulb.

The other more expensive unit appears to offer the fresnel style cut glass to focus the beam. I think it's still too early to invest in such lighting, but hopefully in the coming year we'll see more of these lights being offered bringing prices down and quality up. You can already find some of these LED Fresnels available via eBay (Click Here).
