The Fuji X100 has been a very successful camera, and they've followed up with a smaller version called the X10. The X10 is all the buzz right now for the Fuji lineup. If you haven't been keeping up on the X10, this new 2/3" sensor sized 12MP camera has a zoom range from 24-112mm F/2.0-F/2.8. That's pretty amazing specs. To compare the latest Canon S100 (which I just bought) has a 1/1.7" sensor size and zoom range from 24-120mm F/2.0-F/5.9. The camera also offers a hot shoe if you want to expand with a larger external flash.
So far B&H shows out of stock, Amazon is still accepting pre-orders, and eBay has some as high as double the asking price
. I've seen one auction going for $200 dollars above MSRP (and people have paid that price). Poking around the web a bit more, I happened to see BestBuy Online showing the X10 in stock
in their warehouse and ships in 1 day. Doesn't say it's available in stores, but the warehouse shows ready to ship. Might be worth looking in to if you've been eyeballing this camera. Find it following the link (click here)

Post author@Steve - For video you might want more manual control. Sony NEX-5n?

@Emm
I'm mostly a video guy, but would love to break into photography.
I love having an eyepiece on a camera (screen glare outside is annoying).
Not really interested in it fitting in my pocket or not.
I love the idea of a manual focus ring (like on DSLR cams).
I'd probably use it more for video (I want a light and portable setup).

Post author@Steve - All different prices, with many different features. Depends on if you do photos, videos, and what type of lighting do you work under. Sony does great 60p at 1080, but doesn't shoot RAW photos. The Fuji and Canon might be better in low light than the Sony in both photos and video, but might not have as good Image stabilization. The Sony and Canon can fit in a pocket very easily. The Fuji has an actual eyepiece instead of using the LCD to shoot pictures. Each one has strong and weak points. Do you have anything specific you need from a small camera?

So what model gives you the best bang for the buck?
sony hx9v
canon s100
fuji x10
All of these have great specs.

I've been saving up for this but now I'm really thinking that half the price gets me the GoPro HD 2 instead...
Serge
And Thanks Emm for the specs info!

I might as well treat myself to something nice since I saved so much and Canon did'nt deliver. Although I did just get a Sony NEX 5N... Ill convince myself that its ok to get it since I have to send my NEX back for the clicking issue repair in the mean time....

Man, that's a sexy camera. Wish it had a flip out LCD though. Can't wait to see canons response to this.
