I often get questions about whether the Kamerar Tank Cage will work on the new BlackMagic Design Cinema camera. It was originally designed to fit Canon DSLR cameras, but by accident, it can also fit the BMCC. By changing the stock rods on the Kamerar Tank Cage with standard 15mm rails, i'm able to fit the BlackMagic Design Cinema camera in pretty well. The top plate lines up to allow a 1/4-20 bolt to attach to the BMCC trapping the camera between the plates. It's a very solid mount. Just another affordable option for those looking to mount accessories and or a 15mm rail system with the BMCC. More information about the Kamerar Tank Cage can be found at the product website (click here).

Post author#Dan Beeson - They started selling it with 15mm rods as another option, but if you're looking for a cheap 'dedicated' BlackMagic Design Cinema Camera cage, this one might work better httpss://cheesycam.com/blackmagic-design-cinema-or-production-4k-camera-cage/

Hello Emm, I noticed Kamerar also sells the cage with anodized rods, would this work?

Emm
Post author@Gerrod Clarke - No it won't fit well with those rods.
Gerrod Clarke
Can you use these rods from kamerar to make the BMCC fit?

Thanks a lot Emm!

Post author@Derick - The alignment of the BMCC will probably end up not having enough clearance on the left side if you used the Swiss Rods, and then be very tight on the right hand side.
Derick
Well i'd be using them more so for the cage itself, i'd keep my standard rails at the base, but i noticed on the P&C site that the Swiss Rods happen to be higher than the Swiss Rods that come with the kamerar cage. Overall, would they would be usable to adjust the height to fit the BMCC?
Emm
Post author@Derick - The ends of the swiss rods will work to fit into standard 15mm clamps, but keep in mind the rails wont hold a follow focus because of the width.
Derick
Hey Emm,
I was just wondering if the Swiss Rods from the P&C site would work with this. Are they the right height for the BMCC? I know you wouldn't be able to access the SSD or the ports, but i just wanted to know since i would be using this cage with my DSLR for small scale work as well and the threads with the Swiss rods come in handy.
Emm
Post author@Tango - You can remove the SSD if you have two 15mm rods. You can't do it with the Swiss Rods on the side. You won't have access to any ports on the BMCC if you have the Swiss Rods on.
Tango
Hey Em, so the threaded Kamerar 'handles' can't be used? Are they the right height?
Will the threaded handles get in the way of the ports and SSD slot? I was considering getting the Gini cage, but not I'm unsure.

Can the SSD cards be removed with those two rods there?

Will the Kamerar FF-3 follow focus or the MAX-1 matte box work with the bmcc on this modified rig?
Emm
Post author@marshall - It is not the same specs, and the BMCC does not fit.
marshall
Does the original P&N Cage also have the same spec's as the Kamerar? If so, it should fit too, right?
Emm
Post author@MCMedia - From eBay. They work, but they feel really cheap. I feel like the best Carbon rods i've ever used are from Cinevate. They are completely solid and not hollow, and very precise tolerance. Otherwise you can just use standard 6" aluminum rods to modify the Kamerar cage.
MCMedia
where did you get the cheap rods?
Emm
Post author@Asbjorn - That is not a Kamerar product. That FF is a very very high quality product called the Cinevate Durus Follow Focus (seen here).
Asbjørn
Hey, nice one!
In the video, was that a prototype new kamerar follow focus with hard stops or just me imagining things? 😀
