701HDV Fluid Head 190XDB Aluminum Tripod

For those just looking to support your basic DSLR setup, the 701HDV + Tripod over at B&H is a pretty sweet lightweight setup. Over at Amazon, this same setup runs you about $269. Sure the Amazon package comes with a useless monopod - not worth it. With the current rebates offered over at B&H you can get this very professional fluid head setup for around $184. Yeah, that's a pretty nice price you won't even find over at eBay. Olivia touched a bit on the 190XDB Aluminum tripod in the middle of this video (below).

Here's the kicker if you're reading this today (Sept 27th). With the Upcoming Rosh Hashanah, B&H will close tomorrow. So if you want to get your orders in, you've got until tomorrow morning for normal processing, otherwise you'll have to wait it out until Oct 2nd. OH WAIT! Here's another kicker. That rebate will expire before Oct 2nd To qualify your receipt should have an earlier date. Don't worry, you'll have until Oct 31st to send it in. I'd get on this one...

  1. I just bought the 701HDV a couple of days ago, but after watching a video about the 501HDV I'm a bit confused wither i should keep it or sell it and get the 501HDV. I'm using a Canon 60D and a 055XPROB legs. Those friction knobs looks pretty handy! I haven't used a 501HDV myself, so i need some help, please.

  2. It's a pretty good price indeed. Only $40-50 over those 717AH with sticks combination, although those usually come with a spreader. Do you know if there's a spreader you can use with this one?

@Adam - It certainly does not look like it's damaged. I guess the do come too short. I'm not sure if it can be removed.

@Adam - The threads on the one 'it doesn't fit on' looks like it's damaged. Do you have a close up photo of that?

  5. Adam

The threads on which tripod? The one with the longer screw? I don't know if it's damaged but the head has always screwed on that one without a problem

@Adam - I see it's shorter, but from the video it really looks like the threads on the other tripod is damaged? Does it look stripped out on your end?

@Adam - Actually I don't think you can change that out. It should be long enough for the 501HDV. Just takes a few threads, and then you lock it in place with the set screws.

@Adam - I'm confused. Do you mean the single 3/8" thread on the tripod itself? Or do you mean the (3) small set screws that is used to lock the head in place? If you're talking about the set screws, then yes. You can find those same set screws at Home Depot / Lowes / Orchard. I believe the proper name is 'set screw'.

Or are you talking about a screw on the 501HDV quick release plate?

I know this is a dumb question but is there a way to adjust the screw the comes on the baseplate to make it longer? I actually ordered the Manfrotto 055X Prob legs and I was going to put my 501 HDV head on it but the screw seems too short... do I have to replace it with a longer screw or can I take apart and make longer? Thanks for any help Emm... your the man

Seems like a good deal if you are fast and only need a light duty head. I really like the way the tripod neck reverses for very low panning shots.

On a slight side note: Anyone know anything about the rumored 502HDV bridge head coming out this fall from Manfrotto? It's suppose to replace the 501HDV I believe.
