Sony Firmware Update for NEX-7

Sony has released a firmware update to improve features found in the Sony NEX-7. I'm very satisfied with the little camera, and this is just icing on the cake. Other firmware updates published on the same article include E-mount lenses to enable Hybrid AF function with the new NEX-5R and NEX-6 camera, SLT-α65V and SLT-α77V, and α37 (SLT-a37) and α57 (SLT-a57) models. You can find out more details about what the firmware updates will improve following the link to the Sony Blog (Click Here).

  1. Just tested for overheating and mine behaves exactly the same after the update as it did before.

It's a move in the right direction but not a lot going on for those of us who want to use it to shoot video or hybrid photo/video. I was hoping for custom modes to be added to the virtual dial. Being able to switch between video and photo presets would have done a lot to quiet me down for a while since I'm a hybrid guy.

I'm curious to see if the NEX-6 can offer more in the way of video even though I like the ergonomics of the 7 better. The 5R is out for me for video. Despite better high ISO performance, there's no neutral colour profile in the 5R and I've come to rely on that for my video work.

I'd be satisfied if it weren't for the video record overheating after ~4 minutes and the inability to assign "AF/MF Control" (not assist) to one of the function buttons.
