If you're shooting video with the Panasonic GH3, I highly advise you take a look at the Fhugen GH3 Video Cage. It's compact enough that you can leave your camera in there the entire time, and will give you more mounting points for adding on those necessary accessories. One question that comes up often is 'How do you add rails to the Fhugen Cage?'.
Although there isn't a dedicated 15mm rod adapter for the cage, the design is straight forward much like the tripod mount under your camera. You can mount it to a variety of baseplates that support 15mm rails (and yes it will be optically centered).
In the example above i'm using the PNCGear MP-2 dual rod baseplate (found here). There are height adjustments on the MP-2 if you need to make your rails slightly higher or lower. The baseplate can be used in any direction, but here I have the logo on the side of the LCD screen. Under the baseplate is enough tripod mounts to add your quick release plate of choice for tripod mounting.

@Gordon - Yes this is the same baseplate found on the PR-1 Shoulder Rig and will work with those cameras.
Hi Emm -
Would the base plate work well with a 7D or a Mark III? Still haven't found a decent one...
@Mark Santella - No you can't. That clamp was not designed to mount to this cage. It requires 4 little bolts that align perfectly with the PNCGear GearBox Video Cage.
Can I use the GB-R GearBox Rod Adapter Kit with the cage? Thanks for your answer.
Cheers Emm would really appreciate that.
@lain Thomas - I'll follow up. I've seen the plate for both the QV-1 LCD and for the VF-4 view finder. It's basically a larger base to make up how low the GH3 LCD sits, and they are both Manfrotto-like plates to dock into a tripod head or QR base.
Thanks Emm, I know there was supposed to be a specific plate coming out for the QV1 for the GH3 but haven't seen anything yet... do you know if there's any links to anything showing those mods, just did a search and most of the links are back to cheesy cam!
@lain Thomas - I think the QV-1 works under this GH3 cage. I've seen people use it with this, but with some small modifications.
Hi Emm, very tempting any idea if you can add a viewfinder to this? I know there was supposed to be a gh3 specific plate on the way to attach the carryspeed vf4
@Liam - Watch this video for ideas with those small lenses https://kamerar.com/blogs/news/10664645-setup-ff-3-follow-focus-on-a-gh3-gx7-cine-rig
Really sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I can't find it... Have you compared cheap follow focusses? I'm looking at Kamerar and Fotga DP500 really for a GH3. Also, probably asking the impossible but is there ANY follow focus that will work with the tiny Lumix 14mm and 20mm?
Thanks for your help
@Ross - Everything is accessible except for the battery door. Check this article out: https://procinematools.com/panasonic-gh2-inside-of-fhugen-gh3-cage
Will this cage fit a gh2?
This looks like a good compact option. I've tried some of the generic rail blocks and have found that they twist with only one screw. I use a rail block with a QR adapter and locking pin to keep the cage on straight but its a bit cumbersome.
@1930pictures - Nice small setup, but that's not an official Fhugen 15mm Rail clamp. That's an aftermarket piece. The rails sit too low (too close to the lens), the clamp has a very small base with no anti-twist, and it will prevent you from accessing the battery door. If you're okay with that, it works.
Actually, Emm, there is a setup like this available.
