Yongnuo YN565EX Speedlite Flash

Thanks to Eugene for filling me in on this one. Yongnuo's latest YN5656EX / YN-565EX flash is showing some face internationally. Support for Canon's ETTL, this latest flash really targets the Canon 580EX II so closely that it can actually be triggered by a Canon Master (even Nikon commander). It's also compatible to be triggered by the Canon ST-E2. Even the LCD menu looks somewhat Canon'ish. If you're familiar with the Canon 580EX II (currently Canon's top of the line), the YN-565EX mimics many of the same features, but lands in at half the price. These are the features and the kind of flash that everyone has been waiting for from Yongnuo, and far exceeds what the YN560 was. We'll start to see more of these tricklin' in the next few weeks along with some reviews. Found online (click here).

@Jack - Correct. The YN can't be used as a 'Master', but it can be set as 'Slave' to be triggered by Canon. HSS is not supported.

@Alex McCranor - I have not (yet). I have quite a few 580EX II's which get me by for now, but if i'm looking to add more, i'm interested in these.

  3. Been looking for a good flash at a low price point for the odd bit of photography i do mostly night club work where i need the flash to fire and the shutter to hold open for a few seconds longer so the people freeze and the lights of the club leave streaks.

Looks like this might be the flash for me and at this price i don't mind using it in the club.

    Emm have you ordered one?

I too would be interested in knowing if these puppies have High-speed Sync! What a deal it would certainly be if it does!!

@emm yesterday I ordered the Yongnuo RF-603 triggers off your link. The idea was to replace my pocket wizards with more smaller/cheaper units but I just realized I'll need to test their flash sync speed to make sure they can hit 1/200 consistently.

Yea I'm not trying to freeze a bullet or anything just more just skateboarding and bmx on a professional level.

All my current camera's will only sync at 1/200 so i'm not as worried about HSS as I am about the units actual flash burst duration. Usually if you turn unit's power down you can get quicker bursts but a lot of cheap units have long bursts no matter what making it really hard to get a crisp image.

@Aaron - I don't think any of them support HSS, and no mention has been made on this YN565EX. Yet it has all other Canon communications so that would be interesting.

  8. @emm do you know if any of the cheaper manual yonguno units have fast/short flash durations for higher speed action stuff.
I current use q-flashes & vivitar 285-hv's but both are far from compact and not very cheap either.
