To clear up any confusion, the dovetail is part of the cage and cannot be removed, but you can still mount any quick release you want. Check out the video for a closer look at the Varavon Armor Cage for the Panasonic GH3 / GH4 cameras.
There is an optional base with 15mm rails available at the website, but you could easily add the entire Varavon Cage to the top of any 15mm baseplate - as you would with a bare camera body. Here are some additional images, but for more information about the Varavon GH3 GH4 Armor Video Cage, check out their website (click here).

Post author@Stiffla - No I don't think the handle is in the shot, especially when shooting 4K. In 4K it's more than a 2x crop.

Hi,
Do you have the possibility to check if the top handle is in the picture if your are using a fisheye? For example the rokinon 7.5mm
Thanks in advance

Emm,
I'm wondering the same as mcmillanroad. Have you had a chance to test the clearance with this cage when using a speedbooster?
Thanks

I forgot to add the Honu V2 cage to the mix.

If anyone has any experience using it (and/or the Motionnine cage) please sound off.
Thanks

Has anyone used the Motionnine cage mentioned above?

I'm interested to see how it stacks up against the Varavon cage.

I feel a little dirty now 🙂

Also - Is it just me or did these things jump in price massively? I could have sworn this was like 180 bucks when it first came out.
mcmillanroad
Did you get around to trying a speedbooster on it yet?

would appear that there are some clones on ebay now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/331269619719

No problem Emm, glad to help! - The clamp works very well and is a must-have for the Varavon cage.

Post author@Adam Jeal - Thanks, looks like a great HDMI Clamp for the cage.

this is also an intriguing option: https://motionnine.com/shop/caubcage_gh4/ It looks like it has better button clearance and (once you remove that camera support bit) clearance for a speedbooster, anyone got one yet?
Emily Weiss
@Adam - cant see the link that you posted on the forum..Unless I am a previlige member of the forum.

Hi Emm, here's a solution to the poor HDMI clamp on the Varavon. It works great for me.

Hey
Any idea where I can get the leather strap on it's own?
Thanks

Thanks so much for the review emm,
I've been holding off on getting one of these based mainly on the issue of the clearance for a metabones speedbooster (I pretty much got the GH4 on the specific assumption that I would be using the EF to m43 speedbooster as soon as they finally released it!). I hope somebody posts some information about how it fairs with other versions of the metabones adapters as it will be a deal breaker for the likes of me.
The button issue is also a bit annoying, and I'm wondering what other practical issues there will be when mounting multiple things directly to the cage (adding more hotshoes, arms to the various points on the cage). Otherwise I love the fact that with the strap and handle, it increases the usability as a videocamera of the gh4, while not making it conspicuously large and cumbersome.
