Sony’s Latest RX100 IV and A7RII with 4K Internal Recording

I'm sure the buzz is everywhere, but if you haven't heard Sony has dropped a refresh on two of their popular camera models. The new A7RII sports a full-frame 42.4-megapixel Exmor R back-illuminated structure CMOS sensor, which they claim will take Mirrorless cameras to the next level. The A7RII is capable of 4K 30p or 24p recording in XAVC S at 100MBs, and can shoot up to 120fps in HD. There's just too much to list about this new camera, so it's probably best if you read more of the specs yourself at the Sony A7RII product page (here).

The next new camera from Sony is a refresh of the RX100. This is the 4th version that now adds 4K internal recording on it's 20.1 MP 1" Exmor RS BSI CMOS Sensor. This sensor's design utilizes a stacked backside-illuminated design to improve clarity and image quality when working in dimly-lit conditions as well as to increase its sensitivity to a native ISO 12,800. The RX100 IV also offers S-Log2 Gamma making this an excellent pocketable video camera. The lens is a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-70mm (35mm Equivalent) T* f/1.8-2.8 Lens. Once again, too much to list here so check out the full specs on the product page (here).

  1. Man Emm, you need to really give some Love to the RX-10 and the RX-10 II!!
    This new RX-10 II has excellent Slo-Mo, S-log, 4K video at up to 29 Minutes @ 100MBPS

-2 to 19 dynamic range, The len's is just crazy Good! Built in ND filters I have the RX-10 and it's my main goto camera, so compact and versatile and I will be getting the RX-10 II Also the RX-100IV Only shoots video for 5 minutes!

It also works real well on two of the different stabilizers that I have, and is easy to balance on them, even when I extend the lens for a short telephoto framing.Decent Low-Light and decent auto focus.

  2. The specs look great but the highly compressed codec looks like it produces brittle macro-blocking grossness with weird ass Sony blue colored skies. Unimpressive sample videos imo. We'll see what they can do in a few months though so I'm not going to judge solely based off these clips.

No love for the Sony RX10 Mark II? 960fps, that I'm excited about. Autofocus is also excellent on the Mark I. Plan on using it with my Ronin M so I don't have to worry about focusing.

4K on the RX100IV is nice and all but a $150 increase in MSRP to $948 is quite steep.
