I was hanging out at the San Francisco Academy of Sciences earlier today and was lucky to have the new Panasonic GH3 + 12-35mm F/2.8 with OIS
on hand. Here's a few images taken in JPEG, cropped and resized in Lightroom.
Here's a few video samples from that trip under low lighting and all hand held with typically high ISO settings.
Here's the gear below that was used:

Post author@sam - I haven't compared them side by side, but I don't expect a huge difference. The BIG difference is just handling and operating the camera. It's just much better designed with a better LCD and EVF. These things make working with the GH3 way better than with the GH2.
Emm
Post author@Martin - I have not tried using older lenses just yet. I'm sure the quality will be even better.

Nice photos! ...you ever try using a lens adaptor with old Nikon lenses, in manual mode, when taking photos and/or videos with your new GH3? I would be curious on your results and opinions.

What do you think about video quality compared to a hacked GH2?
Bill
Wow, Emm. Awesome JPEGs. Looks like a lot better camera for stills than the GH2. Thanks for posting.

great! shoot a video next please. very curious now.

Post author@apostolos - I did not shoot RAW, because I assumed there is no support in LightRoom yet. I was just trying to get comfortable with the camera, and all the images were shot in the Intelligent Auto mode. It evaluated the scenes very well so I really didn't find a need to go to any manual settings.

Post author@MovieBuff - I hear the A99 is an awesome camera, but I like the size of the GH3. The A99 will probably be a better portrait camera to blur out backgrounds since it's a full frame. The benefit to the Micro Four Thirds system is the size of the equipment. I'm using a small GH3 with a 12-35mm F/2.8, which would be compared to a Canon DSLR + 24-70mm F/2.8 which is quite beastly. When i'm not working, I like to travel very very light with minimal gear.

These look great. Testing my Gh3 out today!

Hey Emm:
Do you think this could be a legitimate alternative to Canons for stills? I will wait a few months until the price drops, before I start buying GH3s, like I did with the GH1 and GH2, since I'll be using it mainly for video, especially since from all the footage I've seen the GH2 --which now you can get in the 400s on sales-- more than holds its own against the GH3, especially hacked. How did you like that lens? Did you take any raw stills at all? Do you think you can do a side by side of the 5Dmk3 with a 24-70 and this one in some raw stills, maybe some low light shots?

This is incredible! What would you get, the Sony a99 or Panasonic GH3?
Emm
Post author@Key - I was never a fan of the GH2 EVF and LCD screen. I couldn't really use the camera because I wasn't happy looking at the preview. The new GH3 totally changes that for me and it's an amazing little camera. The LCD screen is vibrant, and the EVF you just have to try for yourself. Auto focus is fast, lots of buttons and dials for quick access, and there's some additional features the camera offers that the Canon doesn't. Well worth it's price for sure.

Amazing quality! So now that you've started to use the camera, how's it compare to Canon?
