Can't afford the Atomos Shogun 4K HDMI Recorder? There's now a slightly more affordable product recently announced - the Atomos Ninja Assassin 4K HDMI Recorder / Monitor.
It's a slightly stripped down version of the Shogun, and the DVEStore has a fun and informative video with Top 10 Reasons why you'll want your own.

Post author@T2 - I haven't tried it, but that's a company that's been around for a while. I'm sure it's good, and the 5" is a nice option for a smaller recorder.

Emm - What are your thoughts on the Video Devices Pix-E (5 and 7) line of recorders?

Also Chris,
Be aware that the Shogun is NOT a RAW recorder. It does not record uncompressed RAW DNG files. It can take a RAW signal from an FS7 or FS700 and compress it to a ProRes or Avid format but you will not get a true RAW file out of it. Especially not with a GH4.
Robert
The Odyssey 7Q+ can record DCI 4K from a GH4 or A7S but the Shogun cannot.
I would not be surprised if the Ninja Assassin has the exact same hardware as the Shogun just without XLR Lemo support and SDI. The price is only $400 less than a barebones Shogun which isn't that surprising since this is pretty much a barebones shogun with no SDI or XLR support.

Chris K,
I shot a feature length film with the Shogun through April, May, and June and at that time we could only shoot UHD via the GH4. You can get DCI 4K out of it with an FS camera going RAW > ProRes but not via normal SDI. Atomos has been releasing a lot of updates though so I am not sure if that has changed. I do not believe so though.

Very cool. I like this zacuto-esque approach.

Hmm, any idea if this (or the Shogun) support C4K (4096x2160, rather than UHD at 3840x2160)? Their site used to be clear that it the Shogun (last I checked) supported UHD but not C4K but I remember reading somewhere that C4K was "coming soon". Now their site just lists everything as "2160p 30fps" (which, I assume, is UHD.)
I was DP on a short and we shot it using my GH4 using C4K and I loved the output and look forward to seeing it at a local film festival in full C4K glory. Whether I'd shoot my next work in C4K or UHD, we'll see...But I'd like the option on an external RAW recorder...
