Ask anyone "What's a great lens to start with?" and they will probably suggest a solid 50mm Prime. Decent focal length, wide aperture, and affordable. Most Canon shooters start with a 50mm F/1.8, but here's a solid deal on the better quality Canon 50mm F/1.4. Typically listed for around $340-$399 dollars, today you can find it for just $299 via B&H when you add to cart (click here)

Note on this lens:
Downward pressure (normal use) against the front of the lens can bend/warp the grooves/slots in the internal helicoid. It's a great lens, but you should know to be extra careful when handling/packing it.

It's a great lens. I started with the 1.8, then got the 1.4, and then the 1.2...all within a few weeks; kind of crazy but it works. For the price, it's a good deal. Want to buy mine? 🙂

Amazon apparently has these for $299 as well at the moment.
Wondering if they're coming out with a 1.4 Mk II with IS in it... Canon Rumors mentioned something about it a while back.

Great Deal should I buy a 2nd one? The f1.8 is listed $99 too
